Rabat - French painter and sculptor Mist will show his new exhibit “Into the Wild” in Marrakech from October 23rd to November 22nd at the David Bloch Gallery.
The exhibit pulls from the world-renowned artist’s roots within graffiti culture. It employs the “wild style” aesthetic for which he ranked in the top five of urban artists. “Wild Style” can be recognized by its dynamic combination of letters and shapes, in which color choice and canvas are equally important to the design itself.
Mist was born in Paris in the early 1970’s at the time when graffiti was evolving rapidly. Self-taught, he became an important player on the graffiti scene in the late 1980s, his work was first shown in Paris in 1991 at the exhibition “Grafitti,” alongside Keith Harring, Futura, and Basquiat. In the 2000s he dedicated himself to studio work “searching for a writing both traditional and contemporary.”
About his art he says he enjoys, “Figuring out new shapes, new combinations, making the letters swing, empowering them with more character (no pun intended), almost with a soul.”
Mist’s exhibition in Marrakech is centered on lettering, sketching, and “wild style” in order to pay tribute to the culture which fostered the growth of his art. “I deeply care about this culture because it made me who I am.”
