Exodus- Gods and Kings banned in Egypt for 'historical inaccuracies'

Rabat - The Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) published a memo explaining on what grounds it built its decision to cancel the screening of Ridely Scott's controversial film "Exodus: Gods and Kings."

The governing body of Moroccan cinema said the film which was scheduled to be screened in numerous cinemas in Rabat and Casablanca before its cancellation "contains scenes depicting god as a child during the period of revelation to the prophet Moses.

"This personification is invalid in all monotheistic religions," reads the note circulated by CCM on December 26th.

Earlier, the movie theater of the Morocco Mall has announced on its Facebook page that the authorities have banned the screening of the movie.

The Statement reads, “We are sorry to inform you of the cancellation of the screening of EXODUS film on Moroccan territory by the relevant authorities. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

The film has also been banned in Egypt on the grounds of "historical inaccuracies."

The country's authorities were reported to be unimpressed with the film's claim that an earthquake sparked the famous parting of the Red Sea, rather than a divine miracle, and another suggesting the Jews built the Pyramids, according to the Independent.

The biblically inspired epic film directed by British director Ridely Scott tells the story of the prophet Moses and the exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt and towards the Red Sea.
