Rabat - A large caches of data stolen from the marital cheating website AshleyMadison.com revealed that Moroccans are the Arab world’s biggest users of the site, after Saudis.
On Wednesday, an individual or group claims to have completely compromised the company’s user databases, financial records, and other private records, posting sensitive customer information.
A report by Al Arabiya said that among Arab countries, over 1,000 users registered with the site used Moroccan email addresses, which end in the .ma suffix.
Saudis topped the list of users from Arab countries, with over 1, 230 users, followed by Moroccans.
The third largest group of users was from Bahrain (730), followed by Jordan, (685) while Lebanon, ranked fifth with over 359 users.
Iraqis seemed to be the least interested in pursuing an extramarital affair, with only 33 addresses registered.
Still, one analysis of email addresses found in the data dump also shows that some 15,000 are .mil. or .gov addresses.
The leaked data contains files that appear to include account details and log-in information for some 32 million users of the adult social networking site, touted as the premier site for married individuals seeking partners for affairs.
Noel Biderman, the Chief Executive of Avid Life Media (ALM), the Toronto-based firm that owns Ashley Madison, confirmed the hack.
He said the company was “working diligently and feverishly” to take down ALM’s intellectual property.
“Ashley Madison is the most famous name in infidelity and married dating,” the site asserts on its homepage.
“Have an affair today on Ashley Madison. Thousands of cheating wives and cheating husbands signup everyday looking for an affair…. With our affair guarantee package we guarantee you will find the perfect affair partner.”
