Human Rights Cinema Thursday: “No Land’s Song”

By Nada Afa

Rabat - Cinema 7ème art will host its monthly “Humans rights Cinema Thursday,” on Thursday March 31st. The event is organized on the last Thursday of each month by Association of Mediterranean’s Meetings of Culture and Human rights (ARMCDH).

As an organization, ARMCDH was created in 2010 and its mission has been to promote the culture of human rights through cinematographic works. ARMCDH also organizes many other events, such as “Children’s Morning,” as well as a multitude of Master Classes in the city of Rabat.

This Thursday, in honor of Women’s day, an Iranian documentary, Ayat Najafi’s “No land’s song,” will be screened at the cinema. The documentary takes place in Iran and tells the story of Sara Najafi.

Since the 1979 revolution in Iran, women have been prohibited from singing in public. Sara, a young Iranian music composer, in spite of strict laws and social Iranian norms, decides to organize a concert for female Iranian soloist singers.

Sara and her friends put up a real fight to make the event happen, and go as far as inviting French female singers to participate and support their concert.

What started as the organizing of a concert, turned out to be a rebellious act of liberty and emancipation, and above all, an opportunity to build a bridge between two different cultures through the art of music.

The film traces this journey and gives an accurate account of the women’s fight to tear down walls of social repression and raise their voices for the world to hear.

The documentary screening will be followed by a debate to discuss the cinematographic work.

Cinema 7ème art and ARMCDH extend an invitation to Rabat’s cinema lovers to attend the screening of this thought provoking film this Thursday at 6:30pm.

To encourage a larger audience, the ticket price has been lowered to MAD 10.
